La Conquete de Passage
The Making Families series is a tryptic of paintings created for a group gallery show at the Pierre Menard Gallery in Cambridge, MA in 2007 titled “Invisible Threads Invisible Cities.” With such a theme I chose to engage in a discussion on relationships and isolation in urban environments. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, whose work I greatly enjoy and admire, contributed to this discussion in the 19th century with artwork that spoke to an isolating urban experience. By referencing specific drawings and paintings of his, I chose to make the statement that the urban space can also be a convergence point where previously isolated people can connect and form new families.
